Axis Legend option in the submenu refers to display property changes of text in the axis legend.
If Axis Legend chosen, Format toolbar is activated and you are able to select different font and font size in the axis legend (Advanced Formatting toolbar is disabled).
Default display property for Axis Legend (font: Arial and font size: 9) is shown in the following figure:
If changed font to Garamond and font size to 14:
